selling my old stuff

I’ve decided to sell off my old computer parts for some cash. There’s a bunch of stuff I want to buy by the end of this month.

As some of you already know, my secondary computer which I let it run 24/7 because I use it as a web server, had it’s core harddisk die. I suppose it’s because of poor ventilation which made the disk too hot.

So I’ve decided not to use it as a 24/7 computer anymore. It’ll just be one which I’ll use to learn Linux or maybe for lan parties.

I plan to get a new computer soon, an Intel i7 CPU with 3 sticks of 2GB RAM, to replace my primary computer which I use for gaming and photo editing. I’ll re-use the WD Raptors and HD4870 graphics card from my current PC.

Then the current one will become my 24/7 computer which I use for bittorrents and stuff. I’m used to having a computer ready for use. Always connected to the net, with my IMs and IRC running so I can stay in touch with my friends. A computer which I can remote control from work in case I need to access some files or test server connection.

Each of my computers have a 17″ LCD monitor. One of them has begun having problems which might indicate it’s going to expire soon. If I switch it off and on instantly, the graphics on the screen would go haywire. It needs to stay switched off for about 20 minutes before I can use it again properly.

But until it’s 100% malfunctioned, I intend to keep using it for as long as possible. My mum borrowed a huge sum of money from me recently to start a small business so I have no spare cash to go shopping.

And if it ceases to work, I’ll be getting a Dell 24″ LCD. The huge resolution is going to make post-processing my photos a lot more comfortable.

2 months and 18 more days till my contract with my existing mobile service provider ends and I’m going to switch over to Singtel simply because they have the exclusive rights to distribute iPhone 3G in Singapore.

And we’re back

Finally uploaded every single entry from my backup 1 year ago. I’ve lost about a year of memorable entries and treasured comments. I’ve managed to recover some FFXI related entries from TTTO too. But silly wordpress somehow doesn’t export the full entry in the RSS feed and I end up having some of them chopped off.

This blog is now running on my paid webhost which I purchased for TTTO. At least it should be safer in a data center right?

Right????

BRB, MAKING BACKUPS AND THEN BACKUPS OF BACKUPS.

This has been a painful experience to me. I’ve been wanting to get a NAS server to back up all my data before this shit happened but I kept pushing it back because of financial challenges. And then shit really happened.

Hate Murphy’s Law.

Once again, thanks to all my friends for all the concern and well wishes.

Carbonara, fries and beef patties with cheese

After my previous success with making cold soba, the low cost and simplicity in preparing that dish inspired me to explore cooking a little further.

Fries, Carbonara, Beef patties with cheese

The carbonara cream comes prepared in a jar, so all I had to do was heat it up and pour it over my pasta.

Just last night, I made some teriyaki salmon. It turned out fine and delicious.

In FFXI news, after calling up vPost and making some inquiries, they’ve seemed to have finally located my security token in the US. Looks like I’ll finally be able to get my Mog Satchel unlocked.

Work has been busy, hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze out a bit of time to restore this blog soon, with 2 recent years of entries lost. orz

The power of Yomeishu

After drinking Yomeishu, I began having lots of ideas for my projects and I have a lot of motivation and energy to work on them.

After 2 weeks have passed since I finished the bottle, I find myself lazy to do stuff, no motivation to work on my projects and I just laze around watching anime.

Did Yomeishu really work? Or is it all just placebo!? lol, I might just grab another bottle to find out.

Regarding my NDS, even the local distributor does not repair NDS 1st generation anymore. Which is sad. I was hoping they would at least open up and check if some thing went loose or not.

A friend has told me that he would buy NDS lite together with me should I decide to get one.

So now, what I’ll do is I’ll attempt to open up my NDS and try to see if I can fix it myself. Perhaps re-sit the connectors or whatsoever since I can’t sell it anyway. And if this operation fails, I’ll just get an NDS lite.

Wish me luck!

Misfortune continues to hit me

My spectacles slid and fell off the table, I felt I had enough time to break the fall but somehow my feet didn’t move. The result was a crack in the left lens. It cracks easily because I had chosen glass lens for cleaner vision compared to plastic ones.

So I brought it back to the shop where I got it made and it costs SG$80 (57USD) to replace it.

Then next thing that happened, I was playing “Professor Layton and the Curious Village” on my NDS on the way home from work. Then suddenly the touchscreen just stopped working. It could detect that the screen was being tapped on but it couldn’t detect the exact position of the tapping.

I don’t mind buying the new NDS lite (which currently costs SGD$230) but I hate the idea of having a spare NDS lying around being a paperweight. I’ve checked with a game shop in my area. It would cost less than SGD$90 to fix it but it will take as long as 1 month. Time isn’t a problem as I can just play on my PSP. Or even better, if I manage to sell it away, I’ll get an NDS lite right away.

Oh well… I’ve put up an ad on one of the local gaming forums. Let’s see how it goes…

By the way, “Professor Layton and the Curious Village” is fun, challenging puzzles and nice BGM.
