slowly getting back into the mood

Finally reached 60 on WHM, just to wear the AF. I’ve liked the red/white color scheme and it’s patterns ever since I first saw it during my 8bit FF days. Going to take SCH to 40 or maybe 60 before I decide if I want to take WHM to 75. Might get SMN to 37/40 too, just for SJ.

Next day, after helping a BLU friend learn spells, he asked if I wanted to go on a merit PT to which I agreed. Setup: DRG/WHM x2, DRG/SAM, COR/RNG, BRD/NIN, DRK/WAR. I had the unfortunate task of tanking D:

But thanks to my capped parrying skill, I noticed quite a lot of parried attacks, around 1 out of 2 monsters.

Since my dynamis LS broke, my lolAegis plan progresses at a very slow pace. I haven’t been browsing bazaars at Battalia to find good deals. I’ve only been buying from friends who were willing to sell me at low prices. So all I can do now is to earn gil for future purchases.

Just for the record, my current status is:

LV 3 – Dynamis Shield

T.Whiteshell: 41 / 2,000
O.Bronzepiece: 255 / 12,000
B.Bill: 301 / 2,000
Total: 597 / 16,000 (3.73%)

On the other hand, my smithing mule has reached the 90s. I’m slowly skilling up on synths that result in a small loss of gil and then making up for it with low level synths that are profitable when HQed. Although I have lump sum of gil, perhaps enough to power level smithing to 100, thanks to my HQed Haubergeons, I still refuse to waste gil rushing my smithing up. It’s not fun skilling up this way anyway.

I’m also working on Alchemy on my friend’s account which I took over because he retired. And I’m also levelling it up the same way I did for smithing. Slow and break-even. And I might try taking woodworking up to the 60s on another one of my mules just to dive into the bolt market.

Synthesis is fun :D

Here’s a weird glitch which I think a few others have seen before. :o

And no FFXI post is complete without an ePeen screenshot!

Stoneskin + Drain2 + Last Resort + Souleater

Campaign!

So I finally got around to exploring some of the areas of the past in the new WotG expansion. I liked the new(or old?) West Sarutabaruta and it’s BGM. I now agree when Sireen told me the music for this new expansion is a lot better than the previous ones.

Or maybe we’re just sick of the old ones.

Anyway, I have now travelled to San d’Oria [S] and Windurst [S]. (What does S mean anyway?) But I still haven’t visited Bastok.

At first, I couldn’t decide which nation to pledge allegiance to. I couldn’t decide between San d’Oria or Windurst. So after I found out you could do the missions for all 3 nations and you can easily switch between the 3, I chose San d’Oria in the end.

Next is finding out about campaign battles. Tried to teleport to a battlefield but I didn’t have allied notes to spend. Figured I’d earn a few of them while killing EPs on my way to Passhow Marshlands [S] to activate the maw there, but I didn’t earn any.

Just then, a campain battle began in Passhow so I signed up for it and earned 400 AN at the end. It was a pretty quick battle and I got to see a large group of female DNC NPCs. :D

I’d say it’s because of this new campaign system, a lot of people who don’t get merit PTs easily now actively participate in campaign battles instead of hoping for besiged now. Which may also explain why the Astral Candescence was taken this morning, during the last 5 minutes of besieged, haha.

I’ve been participating in so many besieged battles, I think I’ve earned around 50 merit points from it.

The exp/time from campaign is a lot better than besieged. And it’s also more often, making it easy to earn exp/limit points. I’m going to try and see if I can finish my last 2 STR merits and then level WHM through campaign battles.

As DRK/WHM, I was able to solo the RNG and PLD orcs in Jugner’s battles. The warmachine here is crazy but you can survive if you have enough fire resistance. I think I had 60~65, and that already reduced a lot of damage from the warmachine’s fire weaponskills.

Another very good thing about campaign is, unlike besieged, all the effort you put in isn’t lost if you die at the end of the battle. You get awarded with your exp/limit and AN when you get raised.

I’ve only read a bit on campaign ops, but it seems that quite a few of them are designed for solo play. This is a great thing for a lot of people like me. There’s so much stuff in FFXI that I want to do, but can’t do because of timezone differences or language barrier or the need for a large group of people.

If there’s an equipment as good as Ares’ set or Adaman Hauberk and that’s redeemable through Allied Notes, you can be sure I’ll be happily grinding my way to be one of those well decorated soldiers :P

Got my Joyeuse :D

When window was up, I headed down to Sea Serpent Grotto to my friend who was already there, watching TOD for me. First we killed some sahagins outside Charybdis’ room and we got Zuug the Shoreleaper to spawn. Nothing expensive dropped. :/

Then we started killing PHs and Mr Charybdis spawned!

Panicking, I scanned my friendlist looking for friends to help. Managed to get hold of a RDM. A second BRD friend came to help too. So our setup was NIN/WAR PLD/DRK BRDx2 RDM/DRK BLM/WHM. I was to spam Flash and Stun to help tank with shadow timer.

Didn’t take long, and the fight went very smooth. Apparently, it was a low level one, according to my tank, because he had an easy time with it.

I never expected to get this sword so fast. Very happy. :D

Next is getting my 9th merit point and spending it on my 3rd STR merit. 6 of these merit points are earned from besieged while the other 3 was from my last merit PT which I blogged about, the healing breath setup PT.

Doesn’t seem it will take long to finish the remaining 2.

Besides besieged, there’s nothing else I do now except crafting. Can’t find the motivation to level my WHM or MNK to 75. :(

2nd New WotG Job is Scholar!

The AF looks decent. The looks of it makes me want to make it my next 75 job!

Everyone’s gossiping that the JAs might allow you to view a monster’s stats and weaknesses.

More new updates!

Gobbiebag increased to 70.

Macros increased to 4000 buttons. Currently we have 10 sets of 20. Assuming we have 1 set for each job, does this mean the new expansion will only give us 2 new jobs? Since we currently have 18 jobs.

Players can now invite other people into their mog houses. Lots of cybersex jokes about this already. D:

Scholars have knowledge of both White and Black magic, as well their own exclusive set of spells. They are not exceptional mages, but rather combine abilities from various schools. Scholars also appear to have some use as a support job to other magic-using classes.

By the way, Scholars will not be hitting anything with books. Their basic abilities are “White Grimoire” and “Black Grimoire.” They function similar to a Samurai’s Hasso and Seigan, in that the Scholar chooses between wielding White Magic and Black Magic, but not both at once. There is no time limit on this ability, so technically you could remain on one set of magic forever.

“White Grimoire” lets one specialize in White Magic by lowering cast times and reducing MP cost. In addition, Healing, Divine, and Enhancing skills are all raised, and unique abilities are unlocked. Conversely, Black Magic spells have their MP cost increased and casting time lengthened. However, you are free to switch back and forth at any time.

With Scholar as a support job, using the Black Grimoire will boost those respective skills, perhaps allowing White Mages to net better results with Drain and Aspir, or land the oft-resisted Paralyze on an enemy.

Scholar brings with it a number of abilities to help one skillfully manipulate magic. There are a set of abilities that can only be used with either the White or Black Grimoire. Similar to a Summoner’s Blood Pacts, these abilities are tied to the same recast timer. However, a Scholar has the ability to store up uses of these abilities. For example, say you have an ability with a recast timer of 4 minutes. Normally you would activate it and then have to wait 4 minutes to use it once again. However, a Scholar is able to store up these recasts to a maximum of 3 consecutive activations.

There are also various spells that come unique to Scholar. One allows you to change the designated weather for a target party member. Another causes a great amount of DoT damage. Weather changing magic may not seem like much, but it is great for accommodating preferred spells in battle. Not only does it enhance magic accuracy and damage, but can activate certain pieces of armor.

That’s all about scholar. There’s more info on the expansion if you check the source links below. And to end this entry, here’s a picture of a male bearded dancer! lol

Healing Breath PT #2

Went meritting with a few friends, it seems that they enjoy healing breath PT setups a lot. :)

Yup, DRG DRG MNK SAM BRD DRK. No tanks! (Actually the MNK was tank, lol) We camped at Mt Zhayolm, H-8 H-9 because the camp nearer to the runic portal was occupied by 2 PTs.

This setup allows all DD jobs to go all out and DD. No need to hold back. The highest chain we’ve reached was around 30+. Could’ve been more but we had some hiccups along the way like a few members disconnecting and trolls spamming diamondhide back to back.

Both DRGs have Wyrm Armet, the relic DRG head equip which enhances wyvern breath. It triggers healing breath when a PT member has less than 50% HP and it heals around 400HP The AF triggers healing breath at 50% HP when magic is cast, relic AF enhances the healing breath’s amount but triggers at 33% HP. There’s no limit to healing breath, it can be used repeatedly. MNK was main tank since the job itself gives high HP, is a good DD and has the defensive skill guard (well, only useful if he has it levelled to a decent level).

I ate carbonara+1 for this PT setup. For the HP boost (+14%: NQ +175HP, HQ +180HP) and attack boost (+17%: NQ +65Att, HQ +70Att). More HP makes it safer when you have hate with maxed HP merits, I have about 1500HP. More attack for obvious reasons.

Accuracy wise, I think it was ok and I also have meditate + hasso at my disposal. Guillotines reached 900~1000 easily. When DA from my brutal earring procs, highest I got was 1200~1300.

I randomly did a few cross reapers to close darkness with the MNK’s asuran fists. When both hits connect, I did 900 with 200~900 darkness SC. But somehow my accuracy sucked and I frequently get back 1% TP for my cross reaper (meaning only 1 hit connected, cross reaper is a 2 hit WS) orz. I think I’ll start working on my Snow Gorget again.

BRD was pulling and played march + minuet. Over 2 hours, we racked up around 22,000 limit points. We had 1 death, which I suspect was because the SAM targetted a different mob while the others went for another. Distance was too far for the wyvern’s healing breath to reach. I wasn’t paying attention to that so I don’t know the details.

Oh, and only in this setup can a DRK keep souleater up for it’s full duration. ;)
