Writing a news site…

I’ve decided to make a news/content site instead of a tech blog site on wyred.nu irregardless of whether I have regular readers or not. A fine example of what I hope to create would be Slashdot.

Sure, there are many CMS (Content Management System) scripts readily available for use on the net but where’s the pleasure in making one’s own and being able to customise it to my liking?

The types of articles I’ve planned for are anime/manga, hardware, software, gaming, web development, networking, security. Might add or drop a few but in general, topics would be related to Japanese culture, gaming, computers and the web.

So in the meantime, I would love to have some volunteers to write articles. [:)]

Oh yes, I would love freedom of speech. The disclaimer would have a line that says our writers will not be held liable for articles posted, blah blah…

Another wave of nostalgia

The handwashing liquid at the office got replaced cos it was finished. In place is a different brand and had a smell which immediately reminds me of the medicine I use to take when I was young. I used to be thin and I fall sick easily. When I do, mum brings me to this old clinic along Upper Serangoon Road. I clearly remember it was next to the Crocodile Farm there.

I clearly remember the random patterns of the tiles of the wall at the receptionist. I used to stare at them, somehow amazed, and trying to spot anything unique in the design. I still have a vague image of the doctor’s room, large, spacious, sunny. I think the doctor was someone in his 30s.

The reception where we make appointments and collect medicine is high and I’m always struggling to look at the world behind that glass through a 1.5 foot tall hole.

After the visit, my mother would bring me to the bakery next door. You could smell the aroma of fresh bread from a distance. I would always have a beanpaste bread and a kaya bread. The shop is small, I still remember the desk and an old cash register. Sometimes the baker would swat flies in the big glass cupboard where most of the bread would be placed. I don’t think the aroma of freshly baked bread from that bakery can be found anywhere else. It just has to be that place.

Hmmm… Now I feel like going back there to check if the building is still standing untouched.

woot!

I just loooorve this new layout. [XD] I initially had lots of confusion with the table layout 2 days ago but with a clear and fresh mind this morning, it took an hour to get it done. If I remember correctly, this table I’m using to manage the layout has 6 rows and 6 columns. I wonder if this design is unique or someone else has already done it. And I certainly would like to see how CSS believers create this layout without using HTML tables.

I will have to work up a design for my tech blog. I’m thinking of minimalistic and it will replace my current portal at wyred.nu.

Begun playing FinalFantasy XI without getting a new PC yet. So far my CPU is able to cope with the lanscapes but lags a little when in city and in rooms with lots of NPCs (Non-Playing Characters usually AI-controlled). I want to do a large article on comparing Lineage 2 and FFXI after 2 months of playing FFXI.

An IRC friend, already playing for a long time, got me a WorldPass which is required for me to join the server he’s on. Without it, I will be randomly placed in 1 of 30 servers available. At the character configuration screen, I selected a male human with dark hair. At that screen he looks thin. During gameplay, he looks like a human version of Frodo. [:(]

I couldn’t move for the first 10 minutes into the game. So I had to search the manual to find that I had to left-click and drag. I hate to left click and hold because my right index finger is already overstrained during those intense Diablo 2 sessions.

That’s largely the reason why I stopped playing D2. The other reason was I’m getting bored of all that Baal/Diablo runs. There’s no more co-operation in the game anymore. Everyone relies on a higher level player to rush them all the way to the end of the game. There’s also quite a lot of in-game spam going on in the USWest servers. Blizzard could easily find out which dick is doing all that spamming and ban his CD key but sadly, they don’t seem to be doing anything. But the spam only occurs on the normal levels. You don’t see them on Nightmare/Hell level.

Woke up early in the morning again. 3am this time…

Another scene of nature burned into my mind

I witnessed a beautiful sky the other day, just got off the bus, walking home.

The sky, blue canvas, shades of light blue to blue, from top to bottom.
Clouds, bite size bits of cotton candy scattered far apart from one another over the wide canvas. Glowing bright orange with a little drop of pink.
Setting sun, hidden from my view, blocked by a fucking HDB flat. Could only see an orange glow emanating.

Scenes like this make me yearn for a digital camera! [:(] So much stuff I want to immortalize…

The more I listen to Kotoko’s Hane album, the more I grow to like her songs. Even better when the lyrics are written by herself. I might go hunting for her album at HMV, the only place I know. Other shops only hold albums of popular singers/band like Ayumi Hamasaki, Do As Infinity, Speed, etc. I want more of Angela, Ali Project, The Pillows, Kotoko, CooRie, Asian KungFu Generation, Maaya Sakamoto (I’ve seen a CD of her’s but it’s still not enough!).

The first song of each above-mentioned singer/band that grabbed my attention most…
Angela – Ashitae no Brilliant Road (OP of Uchuu no Stellvia)
Ali Project – Aka to Kuro (One of the OSTs of Noir)
The Pillows – Ride on Shooting Star (ED of FLCL)
Kotoko – Shooting Star (OP of Onegai Sensei)
CooRie – Taisetsu na Negai (ED of Nanaka 6/17)
Asian KungFu Generation – Haruka Kanata (One of the EDs of Naruto)
Maaya Sakamoto – Birds (One of her albums titled Easy Listening)

If you’re interested in any of the above songs, you could PM me in IRC. The only way I do file transfers. And I may only have APE format for some of the songs. APE format uses lossless compression techniques I believe, at the price of bigger file sizes which does not concern me since bandwidth and harddisks aren’t expensive. OP to me means the opening sequence of an anime. ED, the ending.

Currently listening to Neverland by Love Psychedelico from Love Psychedelico III. Yes, I finally ripped 320CBRs from the CD and listening to it for the first time after keeping it in my bag for 25 days since day of purchase. The lead singer has a good voice!

Need Vitamin C!

Just when I thought the weather has started to cool down a little, it could be me that’ve warmed up. I’m starting to feel a little feverish and my nose is running amok. Good thing is today’s Friday and I could use the coming weekend to rest. I believe it’s the dust from cleaning up my room yesterday. It’s sad to have a dust sensitive nose.

Right now I don’t really have the mood to work with this running nose and my mind blanks out every now and then. Can’t wait to knock off…
