First Panic

Gahhh… Here’s what happened at work.

We had 2 copies of amarahotels.com. One on Linux server, one on Windows. At first when I joined my company, I had to fix the problem where the ASP files weren’t working. Heh, they were running on the Linux server which does not support ASP. So we called them up and had it moved the the Windows server. Everything went well.

Just recently, I sent an email to my webhost providers to remove that copy because it’s taking up disk space. About 170MB. And a representative replied that he had the site disabled instead of removing it.

So I got a call from the people at Amara Hotels this morning. Apparently the site went down. So after a bit of checking on the control-panel, it turned out that the DNS records resides on the Linux server and it was disabled together with the site.

I have the site re-enabled now, everything’s back to normal, but my original purpose remains unresolved. [X(]

And by the way, this is not the first time this webhost is giving me problems.

Just one more day

And then it’s another weekend~

In a desperate attempt to stay awake, I pulled out my 220MB .tiff file of a
scan of my sketches and played around hoping to come up with a new blog cover
image. The result as shown above. If you still see the old “movie poster” cover
image, do a ctrl+F5 on your browser.

This piece was drawn back in my poly days. Drawing it was also an attempt to
stay awake in class but I ended up not listening to the lectures. [X(] This is
also, my most proud piece of work for the last 20 years. Depended on nothing
else but a mechanical pencil, my hands, liquid paper and let my feelings do the
rest.

Temporarily Doomed

Struggling to stay awake every day. Urge to sleep so great the magic of coffee has no effect on me.

Been playing FFXI up to 1~2am. The problem is I don’t feel sleepy at all playing the game. Except for one occasion where I played up to 4am. Even one Japanese in my party fell asleep at the teleport crystal while waiting for us. It’s GMT+9 in Japan by the way. For those who don’t know, it means they are one hour ahead of Singapore (GMT+8).

I don’t really enjoy sweets but since I have to, I’ll try those super-sour sweets.

To end this; According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, it’s been months since I last logged on.

May your operating system be stable.

Seven Years Ago

7 years ago, my friend bought his first computer, a Pentium 2, 233MHz with 16MB SDRam, 4MB AGP, 6GB Harddisk. It costs $2500+ back then.

Just last Friday, we went down to SLS to source him a new computer. Here’s the specs:

Soltek K8AN2E nForce3 250GB + AMD Athlon64 3000+ = $510
Corsair 512MB PC3200 = $150
80GB Western Digital = $110
GeCube ATI Radeon 9600Pro = $220
HEC 6AU6 Casing = $70
Antec TruePower 430W = $150
LG CDWriter+DVDRom Combo = $90

Prices rounded and the total is only $1300. Note that this is a powerful machine. Though it could use another stick of 512MB and a 9800Pro instead but our initial budget is $1000.

As for me, I bought myself an APC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Should last me at least 10 minutes judging from what I have connected. Only 3 devices can be powered by the UPS itself. 2 goes to my machines, and the last one goes to my main monitor. I can initiate Windows shutdown just through the power button on the webserving machine.

Now aiming for a cheap 15″ LCD for my webserver machine!

Time is not money, time is extra fun.

Most of my friends know I eat fast. There’s a reason and story behind it.

It all started back in secondary school where we had only 25 minutes of recess. The canteen is small with only a few stalls and there’s only 2-3 stalls that sell food that pleases my tongue. So only 3 stalls to serve half a school. Approximately 200-300. Not everyone eats so make it 150. If I happen to be slow and end up at the back of a long queue, I’ll have 10-15 minutes left to eat.

So this continues for 4 years. I acquired the skill of eating without the needing to stop for a drink. Good. Saved quite a lot of money on drinks.

The scary thing I remember back then is I eat once in the morning, 7am. Again during recess, 10am. And then again in the afternoon, 1pm. Then dinner at home and occasional supper. Now, it’s coffee at 10am, lunch at 1pm, dinner at 8pm. Done. Sometimes supper.

And next, I notice some friends who take 30 minutes to finish a meal where I’d only take 10. Let’s say if I had 3 meals a day, I would have saved an hour of time for more of FFXI. [XD]

So there, how I acquired the skill of eating fast and the reason why I still want to eat fast. [:D]

Speaking of time, I went to check my connection usage on $ingn€t’s website. Checked my connection time for September and and August. You see, August has 31 days. Meaning 744 hours in that month only. And at their site it showed I was connected for 771 hours. I bet in their various attempts to limit user’s downloads, they somehow managed to tear a hole in the fabric of time.
