Life on a weekday

When I don’t have any appointments after work, life for me usually goes like this.

6:40am: wake up and prepare for work

7:35am: leave for work

8:40am: breakfast at Maxwell Food Center

9am: report for work

6pm: leave office

6:30pm: find some place near office for dinner and start working on personal projects like TTTO.

9:30pm: laptop’s battery goes flat after 2 hours, time to go home!

10:30pm: simple workout at home for about 20 minutes.

10:50pm: play FFXI or watch anime.

12am~1am:  sleep

Dynamis-Tav excitement

First dynamis after the December 2010 Version Update. One item in the VU notes mention an adjustment to drop rates in Dynamis, another mentioned how the Treasure Hunter job trait got revamped. Coupled together with another TH tier from THF LV90 and AF3 THF shoes that give another TH tier, I expected relics to rain.

But our only THF, whom I’m sure has all of the above , wasn’t there last night. ( T-T)

Oh well, let’s see how it goes.

First 60 minutes saw absolutely no AF drop.

Then afterwards, 1 AF dropped, then another, then -1s started flowing in in pairs. Hydra equipment too, rained.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, we went for Diabolos. Out of 4, we aggroed 3.

The battle became pretty epic for us.

People were charmed, people died, and it eventually came down to a MNK and me (DRK) and half the alliance mostly weakened, facing 2 diabolos, 1 with about 5% HP and the other at 50% (they begin at 50%). Both of us have less than 200HP, both of us /NIN.

The MNK tanked both Diabolos while we whittled down the 5% one, WHM would occasionally throw a Cure V as soon as she could get enough MP, but it was quickly reduced down when Diabolos uses a WS.

1 Diabolos left.

I execute my WS, grab hate and shadow tanked a bit.

My epic moment came when I had 100+ HP, Utsu:2 wasn’t ready, 1 shadow left.

I start casting Utsu:1.

Lost 1 shadow, Utsu:1 still casting.

Parried the next attack which would’ve killed me and finished my Utsu:1 casting.

Managed to hold on a bit longer till the MNK could grab hate and take over the tanking and we continued taking turns tanking and managed to take it down.

We got our first clear. :D

Did Chan Brothers Travel just try to cheat me?

My Japan trip is coming soon and one of the things I had to prepare is a JR Pass. It’s basically a pass that allows me to travel on all JR trains and bullet trains for free (except NOZOMI bullet train).

This is going to help save a lot especially when I’m planning to travel all the way down to Kyushu, stopping at Nagoya, Kyoto, Oosaka along the way.

So I went to Chan Brothers Travel office because I’ve bought a 7-day pass from them 3 years ago.

There, they told me they don’t sell 14-day passes, but are able to sell me two 7-day passes.

From the JR Pass website, a 7-day pass costs 28,300 yen, a 14-day one costs 45,100 yen.

A huge difference of 11,500 yen between both if you compare it with two 7-day passes (56,600 yen).

I said I’ll check first and that makes it the wisest decision I’ve made today.

I looked up for other distributors on the JR Pass website and called up H.I.S. International Travel to find out if they sell any 14-day JR Passes. A guy picked up the call and answered yes to my question. I went down there to get it.

I received the exchange order for the pass and this is how it looks like:

And I remembered this is how it looks like 3 years ago when I first got it from Chan Brothers.

14 is written.

Written.

I suppose they ran out of 1s and 4s and can only write 7s for me.

Anyway, I’m open to any reasonable explanations.

Second visit to Japan

It’s going to happen in about 18 days from this post.
And I haven’t even changed all the money yet because of the poor exchange rates.

Originally planned to go for 10 days, from 6 Nov to 16 Nov. But if I can get my extra 2 days of leave approved, I’m going to spend 2 weeks there! I don’t care if I have to pay extra for the change of dates for my plane tickets. I’m even going to tap into my savings just for this trip.

At first I was anxious, scared, wanted to change my mind.

But after seeing some photos other people took on their visit to Japan, I’ve got the sudden urge to just teleport there right now! Too bad I can’t.

This time, I will be meeting up with a lot of people there whom I’ve met through Final Fantasy XI. Mostly linkshell friends from TeamKANICAN. The only linkshell I felt most at home with!

The Garden of Sinners

The Garden of Sinners aka 空の境界

When you have great works like this anime title, I don’t think the people behind it have any reason to worry about piracy.

Because after watching this, I went through a lot of trouble to locate one of it’s rare 1/8 PVC figurine.

Ryougi Shiki - Garan no dou

At first, a local blogger was selling this at $90 SGD (66USD). I made a bid for it.

Another person decided to contest against me. We both continued out bidding each other for over a week.

The person selling has a rule that if someone offers twice the amount of the original selling price, bidding will end and that person will win the bid.

My rival offered $180. I lost the bid.

This then fueled my desire to obtain it. I asked friends to help me keep and eye out and make forum posts to look for it. Even asked the local figurine sellers to help me look out for it.

And one day, one of them found it in Japan and brought it back to Singapore. His price is $235 SGD (173USD) for it. After receiving news that he had brought it back, I went down to his shop immediately to buy it.

Till now,  I don’t feel a single ounce of regret spending so much on it. Each time I think about that day when I first held it with my hands, I can’t help but smile. That’s how much I love this series.

I’ve even managed to find it’s Japanese novels at Kinokuniya and bought them as well. There’s still copies available at both Liang Court and Orchard stores if anyone’s interested.

There’s a few 4-square comics on this series and I’ve bought a few of them.

I’ve also bought the “Seventh Heaven” album by Kalafina featuring the songs that appeared in this movie series.

In my upcoming trip to Japan in November, I will see if I can find the OSTs in the shops of Akihabara.

And now, with news of it’s Bluray discs coming out next year, I’m prepared to say goodbye to another $800 SGD (626USD) just for it.

And guess what caused all this spending spree?

The internet.
