Temporarily Doomed

Struggling to stay awake every day. Urge to sleep so great the magic of coffee has no effect on me.

Been playing FFXI up to 1~2am. The problem is I don’t feel sleepy at all playing the game. Except for one occasion where I played up to 4am. Even one Japanese in my party fell asleep at the teleport crystal while waiting for us. It’s GMT+9 in Japan by the way. For those who don’t know, it means they are one hour ahead of Singapore (GMT+8).

I don’t really enjoy sweets but since I have to, I’ll try those super-sour sweets.

To end this; According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, it’s been months since I last logged on.

May your operating system be stable.

Seven Years Ago

7 years ago, my friend bought his first computer, a Pentium 2, 233MHz with 16MB SDRam, 4MB AGP, 6GB Harddisk. It costs $2500+ back then.

Just last Friday, we went down to SLS to source him a new computer. Here’s the specs:

Soltek K8AN2E nForce3 250GB + AMD Athlon64 3000+ = $510
Corsair 512MB PC3200 = $150
80GB Western Digital = $110
GeCube ATI Radeon 9600Pro = $220
HEC 6AU6 Casing = $70
Antec TruePower 430W = $150
LG CDWriter+DVDRom Combo = $90

Prices rounded and the total is only $1300. Note that this is a powerful machine. Though it could use another stick of 512MB and a 9800Pro instead but our initial budget is $1000.

As for me, I bought myself an APC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Should last me at least 10 minutes judging from what I have connected. Only 3 devices can be powered by the UPS itself. 2 goes to my machines, and the last one goes to my main monitor. I can initiate Windows shutdown just through the power button on the webserving machine.

Now aiming for a cheap 15″ LCD for my webserver machine!

Time is not money, time is extra fun.

Most of my friends know I eat fast. There’s a reason and story behind it.

It all started back in secondary school where we had only 25 minutes of recess. The canteen is small with only a few stalls and there’s only 2-3 stalls that sell food that pleases my tongue. So only 3 stalls to serve half a school. Approximately 200-300. Not everyone eats so make it 150. If I happen to be slow and end up at the back of a long queue, I’ll have 10-15 minutes left to eat.

So this continues for 4 years. I acquired the skill of eating without the needing to stop for a drink. Good. Saved quite a lot of money on drinks.

The scary thing I remember back then is I eat once in the morning, 7am. Again during recess, 10am. And then again in the afternoon, 1pm. Then dinner at home and occasional supper. Now, it’s coffee at 10am, lunch at 1pm, dinner at 8pm. Done. Sometimes supper.

And next, I notice some friends who take 30 minutes to finish a meal where I’d only take 10. Let’s say if I had 3 meals a day, I would have saved an hour of time for more of FFXI. [XD]

So there, how I acquired the skill of eating fast and the reason why I still want to eat fast. [:D]

Speaking of time, I went to check my connection usage on $ingn€t’s website. Checked my connection time for September and and August. You see, August has 31 days. Meaning 744 hours in that month only. And at their site it showed I was connected for 771 hours. I bet in their various attempts to limit user’s downloads, they somehow managed to tear a hole in the fabric of time.

Audigy2 coming soon

I came across someone selling a new piece of Audigy2 for just $100. It’s not the ZS version. He stated that the difference without ZS is ZS supports 7.1 and the non-ZS, 6.1.

Going to meet up with this fellow today after work and install my older Audigy onto my machine at work. [XD]

Update:

Well, it turned out to be used once. But it’s okae. The seller told me it was used in the recent World Cyber Games. Anyway, I LOVE THIS NEW CARD!! It’s wonderful… So wonderful… Even when paired with my 6 year old Altec Lansing 2.1pt Speakers, the sound is marvellous.

Looking forward to this weekend so I can play music louder in the afternoon. [X)]

Another fine day in Vana’diel

I got my Black Mage up to level 18. My target was 17 so I could learn warp. Good thing about warp is I can use it to teleport myself over far distances in future.

Now that I’m done with levelling my Black Mage, I went back to playing my Dark Knight. Had a tough time waiting for a other parties to invite me. And then a Japanese player messaged me (he knew a bit of english), asking if I would join him in Korroloka Tunnels. But the thing is I have to run to Bastok, which is rather far from where I currently am, Selbina. He said he wouldn’t mind waiting so without further ado, I set off to Bastok.

There were 2 other Japanese already there. Another English player, a White Mage, was invited and we all waited in Bastok Mines as party leader searched for a player to fill the last slot in the party. The English player got tired of waiting and left. But it wasn’t long till we found a Japanese to replace him. Good thing because White Mages are rather scarce.

The last person, a Warrior finally reached Bastok. He’s new to the game and it was funny to see how he acted the way I did when I first played the game and also as a Warrior. It was fun, teaching him to Skillchain and Magic Bursting with the other Black Mage. Note: Magic bursts don’t work if someone activates another Weapon Skill after the desired Skillchain and if 2 spells are too close to each other. I managed to pull off a second Magic Burst with the Black Mage on 1 skill chain~

Died twice and had the Summoner go back and change her job into a level 40 White Mage and come back to raise us. Felt a little bad and apologised but they were forgiving. ^^

At the end, the party leader brought us to the Altepa Desert for the teleport crystal and to Rabao to buy maps for Korroloka Tunnels and some other places. The party ended at 3am Singapore time, 4am Japan time. 4 hours of sleep till work but it was worth it.

Able to recognise most of Hiragana and Katakana now, still too slow in reading. A bit of Kanji too since they’re so “Mandarin”. I just need to learn more words. No point being able to read but not know the meaning.
